Simple and time-saving Google search tips you can use most regularly

I use Google as my primary guide to the internet and During my years of using Google I've picked up some of tips to help me get to the information I'm looking for faster and more efficiently. Here are some tips that I use most regularly with Google.

Here are some tips that I use :

1: Why Google ?

Because I realized that I wasn't getting as much out of the internet as I could be getting and I switched to Google. And I've looked at a number of different search engines but nothing has force me to switch and leave Google.

2: Planning your time

If you need to planning a meeting that spans timezones it can be tricky and unless you want to decorate your office with clocks you need as alternative.

So you can easley go to Google and type time followed by the name of a country or town/city to get the current time in this country.

3: Currency conversion

Currency conversion can be a pain but with Google no problem

For example, if I want to find the conversion rate for US dollars to British pounds I type usd to gbp into Google to get an interactive calculator.

You can also use the same tip for other conversions such as miles to km, inches to feet and mb to tb.

4: Search by filetype too

Search by filetype too Not just for web pages because The web is made up of a lot more than just web pages and is home to all sorts of filetypes, from PDFs to Word documents.

So if you want PDF documents related to astronomy use astronomy filetype:pdf. Want Word documents instead of PDFs? Use astronomy filetype:doc.

5: Search for timely information

To search for timely information you carry out your search as normal and then click on search tools and change Anytime to the desired range you need.

Google Drive viewer helps you preview over 16 different file types

Google Drive viewer helps you preview over 16 different file types
With Google Drive you can quickly view many file types online including PDFs, Microsoft Office files, and many image file types. Because having to install Photoshop just to view a .psd file can be quite annoying even if you have the option of installing Photoshop in the first place. Same goes for any number of specialized or proprietary file types that you may only use once or twice a year.

Fortunately, there is a growing number of online alternatives to having to install this or that piece of software.

Google's been working on a number of "viewers" first for Gmail to enable users to view attachments without having to download them and then in Google Drive.

Supported file types

Google Drive viewer helps you preview over 16 different file types, listed below:

- Image files (.JPEG, .PNG, .GIF, .TIFF, .BMP)
- Video files (WebM, .MPEG4, .3GPP, .MOV, .AVI, .MPEGPS, .WMV, .FLV)
- Text files (.TXT)
- Markup/Code (.CSS, .HTML, .PHP, .C, .CPP, .H, .HPP, .JS)
- Microsoft Word (.DOC and .DOCX)
- Microsoft Excel (.XLS and .XLSX)
- Microsoft PowerPoint (.PPT and .PPTX)
- Adobe Portable Document Format (.PDF)
- Apple Pages (.PAGES)
- Adobe Illustrator (.AI)
- Adobe Photoshop (.PSD)
- Tagged Image File Format (.TIFF)
- Autodesk AutoCad (.DXF)
- Scalable Vector Graphics (.SVG)
- PostScript (.EPS, .PS)
- TrueType (.TTF)
- XML Paper Specification (.XPS)
- Archive file types (.ZIP and .RAR)

In fact, Google Drive is now probably the best online tools for viewing all sorts of files. It supports over 30 file types well depending on how you count. 30+ is the official figure if you count all extensions you get over 40 file types.

While many of them may be common image, video or text formats which are supported by most browsers some are more obscure.

For one, it supports all common Microsoft Office formats, .doc, .docx, .xls and .xlsx, .ppt and .pptx, for documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

Google+ Hangouts available now to add in the Google calendar
Do you use Google Calendar to schedule catch ups with distant friends and family? . Now, if you've upgraded to Google+ you can schedule a face-to-face video chat right from Google Calendar using Google+ Hangouts. It takes one click to add a hangout to an event and another click to join the hangout.

Google+ Hangouts has been the standout feature of Google's social network and it didn't go unnoticed. Google realizes that it's one of the strengths of Google+ and it's something no one else offers at least not for free.

Which is why Hangouts is being pushed into every other Google product where it makes sense.

A while back Hangouts was integrated into Gmail enabling users to start a group video chat without needing to go to Google+.

Now, the feature has been built into Google Calendar by enabling users to attach a Hangout to events. When creating a new event users have the option of also adding a Hangout to it. This way you can schedule group chats in advance or use Hangouts to iron out any details.
