LG Optimus 3D the first smartphone that LG launched on the market with 3D capabilities has just received a software update from the company one that enables users to enjoy 2D content in 3D.

The feature was already expected to arrive on the smartphone since LG themselves confirmed plans on making the move yet it still comes as great news that the company brought this new feature along.

The option is available for LG Optimus 3D owners in European countries via a new software update that was pushed out on the mobile phone, namely the V10K.

Through this update users will be able to play regular games in stereoscopic 3D as long as the title was designed with OpenGL graphics.

Basically what the new feature is all about includes the addition of a 3D effect on top of said mobile games.

As one might expect the experience is greatly improved at least visually since there still are a series of performance hiccups that users might experience.

Of course the mobile phone also comes with a series of pre-loaded actual 3D games and those who would like to enjoy this third dimension on the go on it can easily do so through playing one of those.

Along with the new feature LG also made available a list of approved 3D-convertible games yet users can still try to add the effect to those titles that are not listed there.

On the downside the new software update will keep the OS flavor on LG Optimus 3D to Android 2.2.2 Froyo.

The mobile phone maker already promised that its 3D-capable handset will taste Gingerbread soon yet it seems that users will have to wait a bit longer for that to happen.

In the meantime however the European owners of an LG Optimus 3D handset can search for the new software update for their devices via LG's PC utility. The update is not available over the air at the moment it seems.
