LG Optimus Pro Smartphone Will Be Available In South Africa In October 2011

LG has just announced that its Optimus Pro smartphone will be available in South Africa beginning October 2011.

According to LG the Optimus Pro will be available for purchase for a suggested retail price of 1,799 Rands about $252.

Announced three weeks ago along with the Optimus Net the LG Optimus Pro borrowed BlackBerry's portrait QWERTY keyboard and added a touchscreen display to offer users both worlds.

Although the phone's price puts it in the mid-tier category the Optimus Pro is a budget Android smartphone aimed at those who are mostly using their phones to write emails and text messages often.

The phone comes with a medium-size 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen with 262k colors support 240 x 320 pixels resolution and accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate.“Consumers today want choice and options. They want phones with a mix of features and technology for their individual needs” says Michael Bang, General Marketing Manager for LG Electronics South Africa.

On the inside the Optimus Pro is equipped with an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7227T processor and packs 150 MB of internal memory 256 MB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB, 2GB memory card included.

“This is precisely what we’ve done with Optimus Pro a completely new device that enhances LG’s reputation as a company with an Android smartphone suitable for everyone” added Bang.

In addition Optimus Pro sports a mediocre 3-megapixel camera with video recording capabilities VGA@24fps.Software-wise, LG Optimus Pro is powered by Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread platform and comes pre-loaded with Google's full suite including Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube and Google Talk.

It is also worth mentioning that the Optimus Pro comes with HSDPA 3.6Mbps support and several connectivity features such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 3.0 and built-in GPS.
