It looks like Xperia X10 owners will have to wait a couple more days until Sony Ericsson decides that the Gingerbread update is ready to be deployed.

After mistakenly announcing that the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update for Xperia X10 is ready to be pushed Sony Ericsson squashed Xperia X10 owners hopes by stating that the information was a bit premature.

Obviously this is unprofessional to say the least but Sony Ericsson thinks it's doing a favor to all Xperia X10 users as the company didn't even plan to upgrade the smartphone beyond Android 2.1 Eclair.

Anyway it appears that Sony Ericsson needs a few more days to prepare the upcoming Gingerbread update for Xperia X10.

“As some of you have seen we have communicated that the Gingerbread software update for Xperia X10 is available. Unfortunately that information was a bit too premature. The launch is imminent and timing according to plan but we just need some more days before we can push the button. Please stay tuned here on the product blog where we will notify you as soon as the first software kits start to roll out” said Mattias Holm head of Product PR.

Initially slated for an end of August release the Gingerbread update for Xperia X10 was moved to July's end but it seems that now it has been pushed back again for a few more days.

For those who are not familiar with the changes added by the Android 2.3.3 for Xperia X10 here is the full change log of the major update:

- Facebook inside Xperia a series of unique integrations of Facebook into multimedia apps, phonebook and calendar
- The possibility to use the phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot
- Music player with equalizer
- USB tethering share 3G data via the USB connector
- Photo widget one click access to gallery app
- App tray sorting arrange apps in any order

Although the Swedish-Japanese joint venture delayed the release of the update its launch is imminent so Xperia X10 should stay tuned as the company will soon communicate any information regarding the Gingerbread update via its official blog.
